What’s in your basement?

“I need to make progress. Which direction should I be heading in?”

The answer is usually upwards and outwards.

Progress by demonstrating gain. Progress by acquiring. Progress that is visible externally. Progress ‘out there’.

Our impulse is rarely to go down and inwards. To be still and go within.

Yet it’s when we look down and inwards that the deepest, most transformational change happens.

By going outwards we expose ourselves to external forces, distractions and pressures.

We subject ourselves to an external game.

When we go inwards, we immediately have influence, power and responsibility.

There’s more control over the outcome and it emerges in the place where we can most make a difference.

This also means there’s nowhere to hide. Think of it like exploring your basement.

Here, we’re playing the inner game.

From this place, we can create real change and have impact elsewhere with strength, purpose and clarity.
